Former puppy mill owner charged with tax evasion

The former owner of a Waimanalo puppy mill shut down by the humane society is now facing a dozen criminal tax charges. Court records show an Oahu grand jury indicted Vernon Luke, charging him with six counts of tax evasion and six counts relating to tax returns. Luke owned Bradley International when the company ran the puppy mill in 2011. The Humane Society seized more than 150 dogs. The company later pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges. The company was fined 370- thousand dollars but not a dime has been paid since Luke dissolved the firm leaving no assets. It is not clear in the court records whether the tax charges have anything to do with the puppy mill. Bail is set at five
